Introduction:
Wordsworth himself was a critique of his own poetry.as his poetry,he also depicts ideas of criticism in two different voices.out of them one of the Preface and second of Lyrical Ballads.there he strongly applied his poetry with particular humanistic values of the European enlightenment.
Wordsworth`s views on poetry as a critique:
His preface fixed and interrelated, connected norms that are the essential, the elementary, the simple, the universe and the permenant.sub matter of his poetry are like the essential passions of the heart, elementary feelings, the great and simple affections, the great and universe passions of men and there character are also with simple elements, who now exist probably.as it,human qualities interact with lasting forms of nature.
Secondly, critical note has in the essay supplymentry to the preface, poem of 1815.
Here, wordsworth addressed himself to explain or justify aspects of novelty and strangeness in poetry that evokes from critics.wordsworth claims that as a community of nature where poetry shares the distinctive quality of Christianity.
With complexity and revolutionary wordsworth`s poems depicts the pathetic emotions.for as one of the poets who combine the heroic passions of pagan antiquity submitted humanity.
Wordsworth`s enormous poetic legacy rests on a large number of poems written by himself, yet continued themes run through in poetry remained consistent  continuously include that, here language and imagery that used in it to embody also remained remarkably consistent.they remained consistent to the cannons wordsworth had set out the preface to lyrical ballad 1802,he notes preface to defence, himself from the nagetive reviews.
About the use of language, wordsworth told that poetry should be written in the real language of common man, rather than in the lofty and elaborate dictions that has elements of so called poetry.according to him, poetry should have the main aim of pleasure and has to chief duty to provide only on delight that marked as the necked and native dignify of man.
Wordsworth`s poetic creed imitated the romantic era by emphasizing feelings, instinct and pleasure above before himself,he also gave expression to inchoate human emotions.
Definition of poetry:
For all good is the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings, and through this is true, poems to which any value can be attached were never produced on any variety of subject but by a man who being possessed of more than usual thought long and deeply.
Objects:
The principal object and then proposed in wordswprth`s poem was to select incidents and situations from common life, and to connect and narrater that throughout as far as possible in a selection of language that truly used by men,and at the same time,to throw over them a certain coloring of imagination whereby common things should be presented to the mind in an unusual aspects, after that except all this,to make it situations and incidents interestingly by tracking in them, truly through not ostentatiously, the primary laws of our nature we associated ideas in a state of excitements.
Humble and rustic life:
To convey or deliver a clear, plain and more emphatic language and to grasp required maturity with essential passions of the heart founded a better soil, one must select humble and rustic life.
And that`s why may be wordsworth`s views, ideas are the most revolutionary of all the thought in his preface on poetic style.many modern writers gaudiness and inane phraseology discarded by wordsworth.he only insists that his poems are written in selection of language of men in a state of vivid sensesition.
The function of poetry:
According to wordsworth, poetry is the breath and finer spirit of all knowledge.the impassioned expression on that is in the countenance of all science.
Poetry seeks to ennoble and edify.it is like morning star that throws lights on the darkness with full shining radiance and disappeares the black night of life.the poet is a teacher and through the medium of poetry he imparts moral lessons for the betterment of human life.
Poetry is used as an instrument for the propagation of moral ideas, thoughts.wordsworth`s poetry does not simply delight or please us,but it teaches us deep morality and opens the doors of deep philosophical truths of life and religion even.
Wordsworth belives that poetry of revolt against moral ideas is poetry of revolt against life, poetry of indifference towards moral ideas is poetry of indifference towards life.
Coleridge`s views on poetry as a critique:
Introduction:
Into three different classes we can see the works of Coleridge is naturally or basically devided themselves;
1)the poetic
2)the critical
3)the philosophical
That is inner corresponding with the early, the middle and the further period of his own career.
Stopford brooke`s statement on his poetry:
All that he did excellently might be bound up in twenty pages, but it should be bound in pure gold.
Coleridge`s two cardinal points of poetry:
The power of exciting the sympathy of the reader by a faithful adnerence to the truth of nature and
The power of giving the interest of novelty by modifying with the colors of imaginations.
For the first type of poetry,the treatment and subject matter should be,to quote Coleridge;
The sudden charm which accidents of light and shade which moonlight or sunset diffuses over a known and famalier land scape, appeared to represent the practicability of combining both.these poetry of nature.
In such poems,
Subjects were chosen from ordinary life.
Characters were chosen from village life.
With meditative and feeling mind to seek after them to notice them, when they present themselves.
And in the second types of poets, the incidents and agents were to be supernatural.to explain it in better way, lets look on Coleridge`s quote:
The excellence aimed at was to consists in the dramatic truth of such emotions as would naturally accompany such situations, supposing them real.and real in this sense they have been to every sourse of delusion, has at any time believed him under supernatural agency.
So here,by supernatural elements natural will be dealt with the help of imagination and from that readers may comprehended it with willing suspension of disbelief.
Lets discuss how the comparison between wordsworth and Coleridge`s works;
Wordsworth and Coleridge came together early in the time and matually arouses various theories which wordsworth embodied in his preface to the lyrical ballads and also tried to put into practice in his own poems.coleridge here claimed credit on his theories and argued that they were Half children of his brains.yet after that,on his views underwent the change,he no longer agree with wordsworth`s theories and so starts to criticized them.
Lets glimps over on three major important statements of wordsworth of his preface which have been objects of Coleridge`s censure.
First of all wordsworth writes that he select law rustic life, where the essential or prime passions of the arts can find a better soul to attend their maturity.they are even less under restrained and voices a plain, simple and more emphatic language.in that rustic life, basic feelings coexist in greater simplicity and better accurately contemplated and more forcibly communicated.the manners of rular life, spring from that primary emotions and from the redusive rustic occupations personalities, are more easily realized and darable.with the beautiful and perminant forms of nature the passions of man are incorporated at the end.
Then secondly, the language of those man is even adopted as they are hourly communicative with better objects from the best part of language is originally derived.being less under social vanity, they convey the emotions and thoughts in very simple and outright expressions as their rank in society and equality and narrow circle made of their intercourse.
At last,he made a number of statesments regarding the language and the diction of poetry.here Coleridge denies the further parts,a selection or the real language of man.the language of the man in law and the rustic life.and between the language of prose and that of metrical composition on there neither is,nor even can be,any primary difference regarding the very first statement, the choice of rustic characters and life,Coleridge pointed here firstly that not all wordsworth`s characters are rustic.
For example:
Character in poems such as Rath,Micheal, are not law and rustic.
Then, their languages and sentiments do not required arises from their abode or occupations.they all are attributable to causes of the similar emotions and language, yet it has various occupations.there causes are mainly two independence that raises men above all limits, and a industrious domenstic life and a stronge religious educations that makes a man well versed in the bible and some other spiritual books excluded with other books.from these two causes, the admirable qualities in the language and sentiments of wordsworth`s characters resulted.also if they had a city life, away from nature, they would have the same sentiments and languages.
In the defence of Coleridge, men will not be propited from a life in ruler solitudes unless they had natural sensibilities and perfect  education.due to lack of this advantage, the mind hardens and a man grows as sensual gross and hardheated.
Coieridge claimes to wordsworth`s use of the words like,Very or Real and adviced that Ordinary or Generally must be there.and in return wordsworth also included of that words in a state of excitement.that is worthless for sentimental excitement may resulted in an intense expressions but it can not create a nobel and richer vocabulary.
To wordsworth`s argument about have it no essential difference in between the language of poetry and prose.coleridge replies that there is and ought to be,an essential difference between both reasons.
For a better understanding lets see his quote as a support:
Language is both a matter and the arrengements of words, words both in prose and poetry may be the same but there arrengements is different.the difference arises from the fact that poetry uses meter and meter reduced a difference arrengments of words.meter is not a mere superficial decoration, but an essential organic part of a poem.even the metaphors and similes used by poets are different in quality of frequently to prose.
There is bound to be an primary difference between arrengements of words of poetry or prose, there is that difference even in the poems of wordsworth which only considered most wordsworthial, further it can`t be clear even that the language of prose and poetry are identical and so convertible.there may be some lines or passages that can be used both in prose and poetry except all.
Another argument is like:
Wordsworth and Coleridge both were interested in representation of psychological various characters in the lyrical ballads.the poems,in bulliding sympathy for the disenfranchised character that drawed, even implicity cricized England`s poor laws.which made it necessary to people for lise all material possessions before they could get one kind of financial assistance from the community.
Conclusion:
To sum up,we can say that wordsworth is a man speaking to man,a man;its true;endowed with more enthusiasism and tenderness.having a better knowledge of human nature and a better comprehensive soul, than one suppose to be common among mankind.
So Coleridge,is the very first English critic, who based his literary criticism on philosophical objects, while critics before that time had been content to turn a poem inside out and to discourse on its limits and qualities,Coleridge busied himself with the question of How it come to be there at all.he was more interested in the creative prosses that made it,what it was, then in the finished ultimate product model.

THE RIVALS:
Introduction:
When we talk about the anti sentimental comedy first we should have perfect ideas on the sentimental comedy.
The sentimental comedy of 18th century was actually reaction against  the comedy of manners which had been voyage during the restoration period.that mainly appears to our feelings of sentimentality, pity, compassionate sympathy.
Anti sentimental comedy is reaction against sentimental comedy.the sentimental comedy did not last language.the sentimental soon degenerated into sentimentality.the aim of the writers of the comedy of manners was to make comic atmosphere of holy characters, middle class morality was ridiculed and the writers of the schools made conscious practice to bring virtue and different under the withering scorn their cynical attitude towards morality.
Anti sentimental comedy is reaction against sentimental comedy.the comedy of manners which goldsmith and sheriden cultivate in 18th century, was the reaction against the sentimental comedy of clibber, steel.goldsmith opposed sentimental comedy because it place of laughter and humors.thus, here is new and success output in anti sentimental comedy.it takes old forms of comedy, comedy of manners.that is also called generally, for anti sentimental comedy.anti sentimental comedy is going to old forms that has a low farce, situational humor.it is high polished in restoration comedy.
A sentimental comedy is one that does not use emotions to evoke reflections in an audience, instead of an anti sentimental comedy.comedy will use cynisizm to achieve its messages.
Anti sentimental comedy is comedy of manners less the vulgarity and the profanity.we know that it deals with the relation and intrings and such other things.
Characteristics of anti sentimental comedy:
Amusing intrignes and situations
Satirical come and irony
Marriage for love and marriage for money
Wit of language and verbal dialogues
Farce and disguise
Emotions have boundries
Generally, the anti sentimental comedy deals with the or focus on the major character as lovers.and it mainly devided into sub plots such as the dramatic way and relations with the pathos.
Let`s discuss the anti sentimental comedy The Rivals with its characteristics.
The Rivals
Aim behind writing the rivals of sheriden`s was only to please or entertain the audience instead of making them shed tears.the rivals was written as a comedy pure and simple.yet it has some sentimental scenes in this play,it surely considered as a parody of sentimentality.sheriden also revolted some fashionable scenes of those days such as:Falkland and Julia`s satire on the sentimental comedy.
A brief examination of this sentimental would clearly reveal that sheriden`s intention was to poke fun at the sentimental comedy of the time.here we find both Falkland and Julia`s absurd.the true character of Falkland is indicated to us by absolute`s description of him as the most teasing comptious, incorrigible lover.even Falkland`s own narration of his state of mind about his beloved Julia makes him looks absurd.for him every hour is an occasion for him to fell alarmed on Julia`s account.
For example:
If its rains,he feels afraid lets some snower should have chilled her.
If the wind is sharp,he feels afraid lets a rude blast should adversely affect her health.
The heat of the noon and the deas of the evening may endanger her wealth.
All this may feels funny and certainly that not to be taken seriously.sheriden here ridiculating the excessive solicitude and concern which an over sentiment lover like paul.experiences when seprated from his beloved.sheriden seems to be pleading for mental equilibrian in the case of an ardent lover also.
Sheriden continuos to portray Falkland in the same satirical manner.when acres appears and is questioned by absolute regarding Julia`s actions in the country side.acres replied that Julia has been enjoing herself througly and been having a gay time.now a normal lover would feel extremely happy to learn this.
We can expect the same reaction from Falkland because ha had assured absolute as he would feel good or happy.beyond messure.if he were something that Julia was hale and hearty.but his real reaction and quite different of greatly amuses us by its asserdity.
In both his interviews with Julia Falkland betrays the same absurdity.in very first interview,he complains to her of the mirth and gaiety that she as been enjoings during his absence.he wants to be loved for his own sake and for no particular reasons and he also expects her love to be fixed and ardent.inshort, his whole manner of talking to her and his soliloquies at the end of this scene reveals him in a still more comic light.
Another interview again shows him a ridiculous light.he subjects Julia to a test in order to convince himself of the sincearity of her love.the author`s intention is to depict the absurd length to which an over sentimental lover can go,and the author expects us to laugh at this kind of lover.
Even Julia supposes from an excessive sentimentality and she too is made to appear absurd and ridiculous for that reasons.the manner that she describes her lover to Lydia shows the kind of mentality that she has.in the second interview, with faukland,Julia is agan over flowing with emotions.we smile at the way she behaves,we are amused by her excess of sentimentality.we mock at the object surrender to her lover and her repeated practice to make up with him.
Lydia too is as an over sentimental girl but in a different way;and she also becomes the subject of ridicule in the play.her romantic ideas and romantic planning appear absure to us.she wants not the usual routine marriage but a ranagy marriage.now all this makes us laugh at her superficially and silliness.there absurd notions have been derived from her by her.the sentimentality and romantic stories to which she is addicted.the collapse of her romantic hopes disappoints her greatly but amuses as a good deal.
The manner in which the other character have been portrayed is even evidence of the anti sentimental characters of the play.captain absolute is a practical man through he assumed the name of the states of ensign Beverley.he would not like to forfeit the rich dowry which Lydia will bring him.mrs marlaprop is a conventional, practical woman whose attitude to marriage is business like sir antnomy too is a practical wordly man.bob acres is a country boor with no romantic or sentimental pretentions but towards the end of the play he shows that he is more practical than anybody else by saying:
If I can`t get a wife without fighting for her,by any valour,I will live a bechlor.
Then there is sir lucius who is absurd but not because of new sentimentality.one reason why he is absurd is because of his want to fight dules for the sake of any sentiments.
When sheriden himself fought a couple of dules for the sake of miss Elizabeth Linley, there was a stronge emotions behind them, but there we have a mockery of dueling and we are made of laugh at the manner in which these dules are arranged.
Anti sentimental comedy this forms is becomes popular with the comedies that were presented by Richard brinsley sheriden`s the rivals.other is school for scandle and oliver gold smith`s she stoops to conquare.it is kind of comedy representing complete and sophisticated code of behavior current in fashionable circle of society.

Brief introduction of John Milton
John Milton was born on December 9,1608 in London. He was English poet, pamphleteer and historian.he even considered as the most significant English author after William Shakespeare.Milton is best known for Paradise Lost, widely regarded as the greatest epic poem in English together with paradise regainedand Samson Agonistes,it confirms Milton`s reputation as one of the greatest poets.in his prose works Milton advocated the abolition of the church of the England and the excention of Charles 1.from the beginning of the English civil wars in 1642 to long after the restoration of Charles 2 as king in 1660,he espoused in all his works a political philosophy that opposed tyranny and state sanctioned religion.his influence extended not only through the civil wars and interregnam but also to the American and French revolutions.in his works on theology,he valued liberty of conscience, the paramount important of scripture as a guide in matters of faith and religious tolerations towards dissidentis.as a civil servant Milton became the voice of the English commonwealth after 1649 through his handling of its international correspondence and his defense of the government polemical attacks from abroad.
Paradise Lost
Paradise Lost is an epic poem in blank verse by the 17th century English poet John Milton.the first version, published in 1667,consisted of 10 books with over 10,000 lines of verse.
The poem concerns the biblical story of the fall of man,the temptation of adam and eve by the fallen angel satan and their expulsion from the garden of eden.Milton`s purpose staten in book 1,is to “justify the ways to god to men.”
Title
Paradise Lost is an elaborate retelling of the most important and tragic incidents in the book of genesis, the first book of the bible.genesis narrates the creation of the world and all its inhabitants, including adam and eve,the first human beings.firstly, everything was just perfect;god gave adam and eve the garden of eden to live in,there was no death,no sensation, all the animals were nice there.the only thing they were not allowed to do was eat from the tree of knowledge.well, one day,the devil disguised himself as a serpant and convinced eve to eat the fruit from the tree of knowledge.she inturn convinced adam to partake.god became very angry with both for disobeying the rule and as a punishment,he banished both of them from paradise, instituted death, suffering pains while giving birth and a whole lot more.adam and eve effectively Lost paradise.
Theme
Themes are the fundamental and often universal ideas explored in a literary work.
The importance of obedience to god:
The first works of Paradise Lost states that the poem`s main theme will be Man`s first disobedience.Milton narrates the story of adam and eve`s disobedience, explains how and why it happens and places the story within the larger context of satan`s rebellion and jesus` resurrection.
Adam and eve are the first humans to disobey god, satan is the first of all god`s creation to disobey.satan was not provoked by others.his dicision to continue to disobey god after his fall into hell ensures that god will not forgive him.same here, adam and eve decide to repent for sins and seek forgiveness, last book of this poem demonstrates that obedience to god, even after repeted falls, can lead to humankind`s salvation.
The hierarchical nature of the universe:
Paradise Lost is all about hierarchy as much as its about obedience.
The layout of the universe:Heaven,Earth,Hell.
Above statement shows the universe as a hierarchy based on proximity to god and his grace.
Satan`s refusal to honor the sun as his superior, questioning god`s hireachy.angels in satan`s camp rebel with a hope of beating god,and when the son and good angels defeat the rebel angels.the rebels are punished by being banished for away from heaven with lowest rank satan continues to disobey god and his hireachy as seeks to corrupt mankind.same as humankind`s disobedience is a corruption of god`s hireachy.
The fun as partly fortune:
Adam and eve`s disobedience allows god to show his mercy and temperance in their punishments and his eternal providence towards humankind.humankind must have experience pain and death but humans can also experience mercy, salvation and grace in ways that would not have been able to had they not disobeyed.while humankind has fallen from grace, individuals can redeem and save themselves through continued devotion and obedience to god.the salvation of humankind that formed the son`s sacrifice and resurrection can begin to restore humankind to its former state.this fortunate results justifies god`s reasoning and explains his ultimate plan for humankind.
Characters:
Satan:
God`s adversary comes as a character of satan.he known as Lucifer.great pride and rebellion of satan leads him towards hell.eventually,he destroyes paradise by assuming the shape of a seapant and tricking eve into eating from the forbidden tree of knowledge.he is the father of the sins and death.
God:
Creator of the universe ,heaven, hell, angels and men.he is omnipresent and omnipotent yet bestous man with free will to choose actions.he is the father of the son, upon whom he bestous the power of judging.satan`s rebellion against him, doubting his omnipotence and challenges for his authority is there in the poem.
Son:
God`s son and equal who given the power to judge man.he was mortal to save man.yet he is resurrected.he even confirms adam and eve after their transgression and clothing both, doles out their punishments.
Adam:
The first human creation of god.rules of eve,who was a creation from his rib.he also warned not to transgress by rapheal.he decides to join eve in her mortality and against his better knowledge;follows her even and eats the forbidden fruit.then his punishment contains hard labor in the field and morality.
Eve:
The second human creation from adam`s rib.with seductively and submissively described as adam`s wife.due to trick of satan of eating the forbidden fruit, she received the punishment of becoming mortal and suffering pain of born baby.
Raphael:
Sender of god to warn adam and eve about satan and remind them to their free will.he engages in a lengthy discussion of satan`s rebellion and universe`s creation of adam`s resquest.
Michael:
He leads the forces of good against the satan.he has important part to jobbing the satan.he enters for escort adam and eve from paradise, and tells them to the truth that will come to pass of both events.
Some minor characters:
Muse:to give him the inspiration to carry on,Milton invoked at certain points.
Beelzubub:a fallen angel and satan`s biggest supporter.
Moloch:a fallen angel.
Sin:son`s daughter.she is half woman and half dogs.with death she guards the gates of hell.
Death:son of sin.
Chaos:ruler of the abyss.he aids satan in getting to earth.
Uriel:is fooled by satan on his way to earth.
Gabriel:guard of the paradise.
Style:
Milton used grand style in Paradise Lost.a tendency to write in long often complicated sentences that can`t simply breese through the text but it must ponder that carefully.a tendency to allude somehow to the bible and to the classical texts.a tendency to use a kind of structure more simple in latin than in anglo saxon English.
Summary:
Book number nine opens with notes to tragic elements.satan returns to earth where he chooses the serpant as his best disguise.next morning when adam and eve go for their gardening tasks, eve suggests they go in seprate directions.with great reservation adam finally consents.the serpant finds eve alone and approaches her.she is surprised to find the creature can speak and is soon induced by him to eat the fruit of the forbidden tree.adam is horrified when he finds what she has done, but at length resignes himself to share her fate rather than be left without her and eats the fruit also.after eating they are aroused with lust and lay together, then fall to restless sleep.they waken to awareness of their nakedness and shame and cover themselves with leaves.in their emotional distress, they fall into mutual accusation and blame.
Conclusion:
To sum up,John Milton`s Paradise Lost is a poem about the disobedience of human being of the god.due to trick of the serpant adam and eve ate the fruit of forbidden but resulted with suffering and pain of death.so over all with regional background Milton presents a very fine specimen of his literary art.
